NDP screening at UQ

* Backdated entry, and a couple more on Ekka and Valentino exhibition to come!

9 August fell on a Monday this year and it's a mad rush for me. After a long day at uni, we rushed down to UQ to set up our table and packed the goodie bags. I was so starved because I didn't have proper meals that day that I scoffed down a muffin when we settled down. Unlike last year where we held it on our 'home ground', it's a joint celebration between our two universities' Singapore student clubs this year.

Samuel and I at the booth with UQ committee peeps. Yen was helping to collect the ticket stubs as our members enter the Holt room as we were going to have a lucky draw later on. My ticket's number 13!

Shawn (from UQ) filming stuff, I think it's for his uni work?

Holt room where the trivia was being held before dinner was served. Red and white helium balloons were everywhere in the room. Dylan didn't like it... he's scared of balloons! LOL

Local fare was served. Assam fish, chicken, mixed curry veggies with rice. It smelled really good, but I can't say the same taste-wise. Maybe it's not a fair review of the food since I only ate the veggies and gave the rest away.

Soon enough, people were ushered into the lecture theatre where the NDP screening would take place. Due to overwhelming response, we hafta get a bigger lecture theatre where the maximum capacity is 300ish in order to fit all of us in!

It's not just students from UQ and QUT in the theatre. We have NS men who happened to be on UQ grounds and they saw that we are having the NDP screening and they asked if they could join us. We also have friends who came to Brisbane for a visit, joining us at this event too.

Standing up to sing the National Anthem

Oh yes, prior to the screening while Sui-Guan was helping to set up the system, there was another round of trivia. The host asked for someone who could recite the announcements that we usually hear at MRT stations in all 4 languages and this guy, he was really amazing! He memorised everything, and each time he finished saying the announcement in the said languages, the whole lecture theatre erupted in cheers and applause =D

Somehow, watching NDP in a foreign land seems more fun. You can almost never get me to watch NDP in Singapore, not even the repeat telecast. Suddenly everyone's so enthusiastic!

One sad thing about this year's screening was that we didn't get to say the pledge because of the streaming. :(

Of course, it's time for lucky draw! It wasn't planned but my sister's ticket number was 14 =D We picked our tickets separately because she came later with the rest of our friends.

See the DHL boxes behind? It contains 4 goodie bags in each box.

Guess what? I won a bag! 13's my lucky number ;) No food items in the bag, but there's the flag/ torch thingy, a fun box with an interesting crossword puzzle inside the cover, collector's collar pin, temporary tattoos and a garbage bag.

It was a good night :) Thank goodness I don't have uni the next day!
