Fashion - Put it all on me

August has been a pretty busy month for me. Earlier in the month, I helped out at the Myer in-store Spring/Summer fashion launch and it was really quite an experience. :) From checking for security tags on apparel and accessories to reading through each outfit's spec sheet of the models we were going to dress, I saw how it's like to be working backstage.

I was assigned to a plus-sized model who was really nice :) It was a bit of a challenge to fit her into her shoes as some of them were quite tight but we managed to do so. We probably had about 5 minutes or so for each change of outfit and clothes and accessories were strewn all over the place. This could be quite stressful as there were two shows, and we needed to keep accessories into its original bags and hang back the apparel on the hangers for each outfit before the next show comes on. I never knew how crammed the backstage area could be, with us dressers, models and make-up artists.

My model and I.

It doesn't matter if I didn't get chosen to help out at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Festival, this is good enough for me :) To sweeten the deal, we were all given $50 Myer gift card as a token of appreciation! Most of the girls went off shopping after the whole event but I rushed back to uni for lecture hahaha!

Then just last week, it's my shift at...

The Fleet Store! :)

Cass was already in the store when I got there. She wasn't expecting me as usually people come in at 11am instead of 10am. So, I was put to work immediately! :) Wiping clean the bottom shelf area, helping in the arrangement of merchandise, throwing out of flowers, running errands at the bank, learning about the different modes of payment and things to take note... it's been an interesting day learning more about retail!

Jewellery and brooches. I really like the layout of the shop

Jewellery by Jane Peacock and another designer in the glass case. Jane Peacock's the designer I interviewed for an assignment last semester :)

Cards with illustrations on them, going for $7.50 each.

I love fascinators! Perfect for races, and they look really good!

Right now, I'm preparing my portfolio... gotta get ready before I graduate at the end of the year. I was showing the fashion illustrations and my development sketchbook that I slaved over last semester to my tutor for fashion portfolio and she seemed pretty happy with what I did. It has been nice talking to her as I was wondering how did she know that people needed illustrators or designers to do stuff for them and she helped shed some light :)
