tuesday with bestie

My Tuesday started off with my routine session at the gym, started to run on the treadmill again after quite a while instead of working on the elliptical machine because I decided that I need to work on my stamina since I'll need it for cheerleading. 4km, going strong. 5km next session! *determined*

After that, I met Ming in West End for lunch at The Gunshop Cafe that Yen was raving about last semester but I never gotten around to trying it since it's sorta outta the way. It was awarded the title of Best Breakfast Restaurant in Brisbane 2008 & 2009 by Restaurant & Catering Queensland and the Best Cafe in Australia (Feb 2010) by Delicious Magaine. With accolades like this, you can't go wrong ordering anything in this place.

I went there with something I wanted to try in mind based on the menu I saw on the website the night but when I got there, I was greeted with a daily menu instead and the item I wanted to try wasn't offered. In the end, I settled for a smoked chicken and avocado salad while Ming had seared hervey bay scallops.

Here's mine...

And this is his!

I passed him my smoked chicken while he gave me more greens :) I really like the tempura ladyfinger that he had with his dish! Actually I think as long as anything is fried, I'll like it. LOL

After that, time to check out Hats: An Anthropology by Stephen Jones exhibition at Queensland Art Gallery!

Photography wasn't allowed in the exhibition, but my bestie has his sneaky ways... Hahaha!

The exhibition is a collaboration between London's V&A Museum and Stephen Jones, one of the world's foremost milliners. This exhibition examines the world of millinery from the inside out, following the life of a hat through the various stages of inspiration and creation to the salon and finally to the client. More than 250 hats and headpieces were showcased in the exhibition and it includes historical items and iconic hats such as a Egyptian fez dated back to the twelfth-century and this wide-brimmed black silk tulle hat from Christian Dior's first collection in 1948.

Here are some of pieces of hats and headpieces from the exhibition that I personally like:

Stephen Jones, 1999.

Phillip Treacy, for Sarah Jessica Parker's Sex & The City movie premiere

Phillip Treacy, 1995.

Here's a quote from Stephen Jones that I caught from his video: "That's the thing about hats. They're extravagant and full of humour and allow for a sense of costume, but in a lighthearted way" Well said :)

Next, we proceeded on to the station where we can make hats/ headpieces! All materials were provided for us =D I had totally no idea what I was going to do, my hands had a mind of its own so I let it take over. There were instruction sheets but halfway through I just did my own thing.

Trying to position my headpiece to the side after the addition of the elastic band

Us with our creations on our heads! =D

Us outside the gallery

And we walked around with our hats on our heads and this man looked at my head and went 'nice hat' while waiting at a traffic light. =D We parted ways soon after because I had my Story Bridge Climb lined up but I'm sure we'll gonna have a blast again the next time we meet up!
