Dear M,
I knew you from work. I was supposed to get in touch with you for some matters but I didn't because I thought you were just an intern and I'd rather get in touch with my colleague (your supervisor) to get things done. I can't remember how everything played out next but I knew this: I liked foosball, I spent afternoons playing with my fellow colleagues and I was good at it. You were playing foosball with your fellow interns at the lounge and I couldn't help but want to challenge you at it. So yeah, I kicked your ass that time and it gave me such a high that subsequently we played together often enough, calling for matches after work hours. Sometimes I win, sometimes you win and we would talk online occasionally too.
A crush is a funny thing I can't begin to explain. You made me look forward to going to work, I had heart palpitations, and I couldn't sleep much because I wanted to talk to you online at night and know you better. Sometimes I couldn't sleep even after you went offline and needed to tipple to get me to sleep. When you said that you were sad to leave, I found myself thinking, "yeah I'm upset to see you leave too".
You came back on that day when I was absorbed in my work and I mumbled something in passing because that's what I do when people dropped by my desk and I had no time to entertain them. So imagine my surprise when I looked up and it was you! It totally made my day and I sped up my work in order for a foosball game.
But that's 2 years ago now. It was just a silly, harmless crush, and I'm happy that you found someone to love and I'm happy I've someone whom I care deeply about. Just so you know, I'll still kick your ass at foosball, anytime.

Letter 5 - A Stranger
Dear Stranger,
You don't know me, and I don't know you either. But our paths crossed that day when I was at Coles with my friend. I have a habit of looking into people's shopping baskets, to see what they are buying and imagine what kind of person they are... I had a peek at yours and it just consisted of soda water and a can of pet food.
You were ahead of me at the cashier and I watched how you struggle to find enough money to pay for your purchase and my heart just broke because I hope that's not what you are eating and no one at your age should be eating that. I wished I had quickly ran after you and offered you a muffin or something but I didn't and that's a regret that comes back to haunt me from time to time.
So I pray that your life gets better and you have enough to eat, and that is motivation for me to do something for people in need this Christmas.

Letter 4 — Your sibling (or closest relative)
* It's been a while since the last letter from The Letters Project, so I'm getting back to it because I'm as free as a lark now! *
To my sister - chai mei mei.
I don't know what I want to say, because it will mostly be a repeat of what I've written in your birthday card. I know it isn't quite 500 words but I tried! Anyways, I'll do this instead for this letter --> 10 Reasons why I love my sister:
10. You always come in and save the day.
Example: you bringing my laptop to my workplace, you bringing my work pass because I forgot to bring it, passing me my handphone charger because my handphone died and I needed it in order for an event later in the evening, etc.
9. You are always there when I need a hug or a shoulder to cry on.
Recap: the time when I was all stressed out for exams and sitting on my bed crying, and when some dude broke my heart and I was crying my heart out, etc
8. You are the magical elf that does the dishes in the sink when I left them there a little too long. Ain't gonna be a habit!
7. You enjoy teasing me as much as I enjoy teasing you.
6. You behave like a total idiot sometimes, like hiding under the table and meowing as I walk in. (Never fails to crack me up!)
5. You are the most thoughtful sister, ever.
4. You behave more like the older sibling that I do.
3. You know what I like, and surprises me. (Read: Thomas Sabo charm bracelet - Birthday/Christmas present circa 2009)
2. You taught me how to share. For example... a bedroom.
1. Because I love you, no whys, just because. :)

Letter 3 - To My Parents
I know I've taken a break from writing these letters but that's because I've been really busy! So here's the letter of the moment long overdue, dedicated to my parents:
Dear Mum and Dad,
Ok, this is kinda hard to start. Maybe I'll address each part to you both separately.
Dear Dad,
You are the person I go to whenever I get a lousy grade for my class tests because I know I'd get a scolding if I show my report card to Mum and I'm not one who forges signatures. I know with you, I can get away with it because you're the more lenient parent.
When I was younger, I enjoyed following you to the factory but I'm not sure if the feeling's mutual because sometimes when I said that I'm gonna follow you to the factory, you'll disappear alot faster than usual hahaha. But I like just hanging around in the office, playing with my cousins, feeding koi fishes at someone's office (can't remember who) and just having a different place to hang out during school holidays. I remember going to Bishan Park, you fishing and Kelda and I riding on rented bicycles around the place. I have vague memories of you, uncle and the other fellow employees playing soccer at Bishan Park after work one day, I didn't make it up, did I? I remember you coming home with two pairs of rollerblades for me and Kelda, and how we spent the evening trying to get our balance on them. Those were good memories that I have.
As I grew up and things happen like they do, I started to resent some of the stuff you did. I didn't talk much to you, or pay any attention to you because of all the anger/ resentment I held against you. But one day, I just snapped outta it because... holding all this anger inside of me is only damaging me, hurting me and no one else. Seeing you smoke still upsets me, but I know you're always going somewhere far away from me when you want to smoke. Psst, you know sometimes in the middle of the night, I get woken up when you light up a cigarette? I'm sensitive like that.
Maybe absence makes hearts grow fonder, but I find you acting like a dad now. You talk to me online from time to time, though sometimes I don't respond because I'm away from the computer or too busy to respond and I'm sorry for all the times that occurred. Anyways, I just want to say, I know there's no manual on how to be a great dad so... I think you're doing fine. :)
Dear Mum,
I think it's hard to know which style of parenting you wish to adopt when you're dealing with your first child (ie, me), but I hope I turned out pretty alright by your terms. Whatever I do, it's in hope that you'll be proud of the things I've accomplished, be it in terms of academics or otherwise.
I know you've always tried to expose me to many things: piano/ abacus/ art/ tuition classes to prepare me, but I really hate abacus you know! =( I admit, it was fun for a while but the novelty of flicking beads back and forth faded off after a while. I know it's supposed to help me in my mental sums and all that, but I'm just not wired for calculations!
I know you didn't have much when you were a kid and you don't want us to go through what you went through, that's why you provide us with what we need and beyond. So, I 'm very blessed to have you for my mum.
You are the stricter parent, I remember you making me pull my ears or face the wall when I've been naughty and you would prevent anyone from 'saving' me from my plight. But I know you're strict with me because you have my interests at heart.
Because I'm a child in your eyes, and I will always be because I know when I whine, you'll grant me all my whims and fancies. I wanted you to bake me a cake for my birthday two years back instead of getting one from the bakery, and you did. I whined when I wanted a massage and you manipulate my muscles and they felt better. That must be the magic of the touch of a mother.
I will always remember how you held my hand and helped me trace/draw pictures for my art homework, how you made me walk to school on my own after I missed the school bus because I didn't finish my homework (but you followed close behind to make sure I don't get lost/ kidnapped), you taking photos of me during my dance performances when I was in primary school, you bringing us to KAP's McDonald's when we were kids and we would play in the playground while you were downstairs ordering food for us, afternoons spent in JB having lunch+tea+dinner and watching movies, you spending time in Brisbane with us, cooking homecooked meals and things that I missed so much and taking care of me when I was hopping around on my crutches. 有妈的孩子像个宝。
I just want to say that I can't wait to see you both and the whole family at our convocation at the end of the year. Mum and Dad, I miss you both.

Letter 2- To My Crush
Dear Gymboy (or what's what I call you when I talk about you among my friends):
I remembered how I was running on the treadmill when I noticed that you were looking and smiling in my direction. I thought you saw a familiar friend working out beside me and I just gave a half-hearted smile just to be polite, just in case it was directed at me. After that encounter, I saw you in the gym occasionally and sometimes when I happen to catch you looking at me, you would smile.
My favourite memory at the gym would be the day where we were both in the personal training zone doing our separate routines and then our eyes met and we both smiled at each other. You then came over and introduced yourself to me and we just started an easy conversation.
You are my motivation for going to the gym, you make it easier for me to run longer distances because I hope by the time I'm done with my run and start on my cool down stretches, you'll be in the same area doing your sets of exercises and we will have a chance to talk to each other.
You brightened my day when you told me that you noticed that I was gone for a while when I came back after the summer vacation. Tuesdays were my favourite day of the week to work out because I noticed that you visit the gym then. But ever since sustaining that ankle injury, I haven't been to the gym for more than 2 months now.
Just now I saw someone who looked like you walking on the street from GP's direction and I thought it could be you since you are studying at that campus. So you know what? I'm going to the gym tomorrow and who knows, Tuesdays might still be my favourite day of the week :)

Letter 1 - To My Best Friend
This is a very hard first letter for me because to be very honest, I think the term 'best friends' is soo primary school and it's hard for me to decide who to write to because I get close to different friends at different points in life (because of similar interests, etc ) and then... they just become normal friends after that.
So for this project, I'm dedicating my first letter to my bestie of the moment: Ming
You call me pig, you call me sissy boy. You are my best friend in this foreign land, we haven't known each other for very long but who says time is the deciding factor for best-friendship?! People may think that it's weird for a girl to have a male best friend but they don't know that I'm a boy at heart lol! Maybe we get along well because we are both Sagittarians, maybe we get along well because we are both awesome people (hahaha!!) but either way, I enjoy hanging out with you. In some ways, you remind me of my crazier old self.
I like how I have someone who would be willing to go explore places with me, crack me up with silly jokes, share interesting trivia with me and have someone to talk to when I'm online early in the morning while the whole world is still sleeping. You're also the first person I wanna go to if I wanna rant/whine/mope and sometimes you'd advise me to pray, and talk to God.
I appreciate how you always send text messages to let me know that you enjoyed our day out together, or random texts because you saw something that you think I might be interested in. I think you already know this but I just wanna say that you have a eye for beauty and I hope you'll never lose sight of the beauty in life. You have no idea how close I was to tears when I saw the photos from the photoshoot you did for my project! *Speaking of which, I'm waiting for my lecturer to return me my package and I'll give you that lookbook when I get it back.* Oh yes, thanks for feeding my harddisk with awesome shows so I never get bored! =D
I know you are jolly and happy most of the time but I want you to know that if you are ever feeling down and need a listening ear or if you need to rant, I'm always here. That's what BFFs are for, right? :)

The Letters Project
I saw something from my sister's blog and I thought it was pretty interesting experiment to embark on. I'm making modifications to it and make it truly my own and maybe if you're interested, come join in the fun and we'll start a new trend!
What's the Letters Project about?
This project is about writing letters to different people over a period of time. We all love receiving personal letters and now that we're in this digital age, we've moved on from snail mails to e-mails but nevertheless, it's still heartwarming to open up a letter/ an email and know how someone feels about you. Sometimes we may have a difficult time finding the right words to say, but when you write (or at least for me), it just flows. Be it whatever you're conveying, I hope you let someone know how you feel about them, or find closure through this exercise. So have fun and let's see how this goes! ;)
Letter 1 — Your Best Friend
Letter 2 — Your Crush
Letter 3 — Your parents
Letter 4 — Your sibling (or closest relative)
Letter 5 — A stranger
Letter 6 — Your Ex-boyfriend/girlfriend/love/crush
Letter 7 — Your favorite internet friend
Letter 8 — Someone you wish you could meet
Letter 9 — Someone you don’t talk to as much as you’d like to
Letter 10 — A Deceased person you wish you could talk to
Letter 11 — The person you hate most/caused you a lot of pain
Letter 12 — Someone you’ve drifted away from
Letter 13 — The person you miss the most
Letter 14 — Someone that’s not in your state/country
Letter 15 — The person that you wish you could be
Letter 16 — The one that broke your heart the hardest
Letter 17 — Someone you judged by their first impression
Letter 18 — Someone you want to give a second chance to
Letter 19 — The last person you kissed
Letter 20 — The person that gave you your favorite memory
Letter 21 — The person you know that is going through the worst of times
Letter 22 — The friendliest person you knew for only one day
