Museum with my bestie

I just realise that bestie is my museum-going buddy over here. Most of the time we hang out, we are off to checking out the new exhibitions at the museums hahaha.

So yesterday, we went to GoMA as the 21st Century: Art in the First Decade is finally up! The last time when we were there like one or two weeks ago, the museum was as good as being closed as exhibits occupied the entire GoMA and they were all in the process of being installed. This exhibition showcases works created between 2000 and 2010 and there are more than 200 works, featuring over 140 artists and artist collaborative groups from more than 40 countries.

This entire exhibition is a multi-platform project that incorporates a blog, interactive artists' projects for children and families (my favourite!), innovative public programmes and more. In fact, we didn't finish checking out all the exhibits on display and I should be heading back to view the ones that I've missed out.

Internet Memes. Be greeted on a wall of monitors playing well-known viral Youtube videos upon entrance to the museum!

"The Internet is For Porn" video. It's actually a song from the musical Avenue Q, which I love alot!

Olafur Eliasson’s The cubic structural evolution project 2004. In this interactive work, the public participate in the construction of a cityscape using white Lego blocks.

Rivane Neuenschwander’s I wish your wish 2003. Hundreds of coloured ribbons with wishes printed on are hung from a gallery wall. This is also another interactive work, visitors are invited to select a ribbon, tie it to their wrist and leave a new wish in return. According to a Brazilian tradition, the wish will come true when the ribbon eventually becomes undone and falls away. Who knows, it might be used in the artist's next exhibition submitted to the artist from visitors to previous exhibitions, hang from a gallery wall. I took "I wish my sister all the happiness in the world" -cue "awwwws"- And the wish I left behind: 'I wish more people would be thankful for what they have instead of focusing on what they lack' Something like that.

Thought this was interesting. Taken from a different viewpoint, shown at a different viewpoint.

This is an extremely interesting exhibit. Love the puzzles!

Another interactive corner. Bestie and I sat in front of the paper that says aeroplanes-lizards and we began doodling!

Wang Qingsong’s China Red 2008–09. This major installation of billboard posters were painted by Wang using traditional brush-and-ink as well as felt-tip pen, and feature a random selection of slogans and brand names promoting everything from multinational companies to domestic services.

We were watching some stop-motion video which involves a female hunter hunting down a walrus, killing it, and dressing herself in its hide. It was kinda disturbing for me.

We passed by a room filled with purple balloons. Must come back and check it out!

Then bestie and I undertook this alien citizenship test and we were conferred honorary citizens! Now we are officially AustrALIENS!

Before we left, we just had to take this....

This Left/Right slide 2010 by Carsten Höller is one of the major commissions for the ‘21st Century: Art in the First Decade’ exhibition. Described by the artist as a ‘happiness producing machine’, the slides will have an elegant, sculptural presence at the entrance to the exhibition and allow visitors to participate in the work. And it's three storeys high! =D

We had to grab a sack, put our feet into it, lie flat and off we went down the tube! =D It was fun and I was screaming my way down hahaha.

Will blog about the other exhibition I checked out with bestie soon!
