First day of the last month of the year

So the official results are out and praise God that I'll be graduating with a Bachelor of Creative Industries with Distinction! Now I have a list of things to get done before the big day.. :)

Registration to attend graduation ceremony, checked. Purchase tickets to ceremony, checked. Gown hire, to be done. Heels, to be done. Make appointment for facial session, checked. Get a haircut, checked.

Speaking of getting a haircut, I went down to BOOM Hair Studio today on 39 James Street, Fortitude Valley. This is the second hair salon I've visited during my entire duration here in Brisbane, the first being Koogi Hair Dressing located in the city which was average in my opinion. I was a little apprehensive at first but after looking through reviews online, my heart was set at ease.

The salon is run by Japanese and all of their hairstylists are from Japan. I must say I was impressed by their service standards. When I stepped into the place, I was greeted by the receptionist who later took my bag from me and stored it in their 'cloakroom'. Then I had a short consultation with the hairstylist Kenta, about what I wanted with help from photos on my iPhone before I was led for a hair wash. I noticed something about them: before they proceed to do anything, they will inform me very politely and it's awesome for someone like me who likes to feel in control of things and be in the know. :)

I was very hesitant about going to Asian hair salons because I'm afraid that they would use the thinning scissors on me as I have really thick hair and I told him not to thin it if possible. As Kenta was in the middle of cutting my hair, I asked if my hair was thick and he laughed politely. He gave me his opinion and asked for my permission to carry it out what he thought would be good. After listening to his explanation (and it didn't hurt that he was good-looking as well), I decided to take a leap of faith... and trust that he knows his stuff. And I'm glad that I did. I couldn't really tell the difference at first but I sure felt it when I was shampooing my hair just now. It was also really easy to talk to Kenta unlike my trusted hairstylists in Singapore. They are undoubtedly good, but... there's just something unassuming and sincere about Kenta that makes you feel at ease and willing to have a conversation instead of just shutting up and wanting to get the haircut over and done with.

After my haircut, Sam and I popped over to the cafe next door for lunch since it was raining. That poor boy was starving, hahha! Having a hot caramel latte during such wet weather = ♥

My lunch - Mac'& 4 cheese. Yums!
