So yeah, last Saturday was quite eventful. We went for SSA's welcome BBQ and saw many new/unfamiliar faces! It was nice getting to know new people, and I just realised how small this world is. My friend Rynette is planning to come over to Brissy for a holiday and has plans to stay at a friend's place on Franklin Street in Kelvin Grove. I overheard a friend saying that someone is staying on Franklin Street and it turns out that that's the friend Rynette's gonna bunk in with! Hahaha :) Some pictures of us!

Friends!

Then met bestie in the evening in the city to catch the Wallabies vs. Springboks (South Africa) match at Suncorp Stadium.

Go Wallabies!
Was checking if Wallabies will play against All Blacks and they do! But in Melbourne... :( I was a little dismayed until I saw the tune-in for the live screening on channel 7 this morning! =D I'm gonna watch it tomorrow night from the comfort of my home.
So Kendrick and I went down to UQ on Wednesday to promote our radio show, create awareness, recruit members and potential presenters/panelists. It was their Market Day and I feel kinda cheated of my whole university experience, hahaha. Amazing architecture, endless green lawns where students gather in groups to chill, or students all sprawled out on the grass taking a nap, and there's some people in a corner playing a game of volleyball or frisbee. It's an entirely different environment as compared to QUT. Hell, I feel smart just walking along the walkways.

People playing volleyball

They have mascots too! This kangaroo has a koala partner and their booth was just beside ours. Hahhaa! Lotsa people took pictures with them, how cute!

There were so many clubs and societies, the students here are really spoilt for choice.

Little gem goodies that SSS dishes out
Remember these biscuits?! So old-school and definitely evokes memories of my childhood. I like to eat the bottom base first before eating the icing on top. =D
But anyways, we were there because UQ's Singapore Students Society invited us to set up booth with them. There is a constant stream of students signing up with them and I reckon they have at least, at least 50-60 sign ups that day! A totally different situation for us at QUT T.T
To be honest, I wasn't harbouring high hopes for our recruitment drive since our listeners are mainly our friends from QUT but I made it a personal goal to have at least return with a few sign-ups and to leave the place with more people knowing about the existence of our programme.

And we did! We had 4 people signing up, and this guy actually came up to us and told me that I looked familiar because he saw my picture on someone's blog. My first thought was it could be Ming's, and I'm correct! Apparently he was looking up on stuff about Australia prior to coming over and he chanced upon bestie's blog. At first he thought Lala-Land was a joke or something but he tuned in to our show too! Amazinggg. And there was this German dude who came by and seemed interested in what we were doing. When I told him we were looking for people to present in Mandarin, he broke out into fluent Mandarin and I was floored. Like W.O.W. I'm sorta effectively bilingual and picked up two other languages along the way but I was really impressed to see someone of a different culture being so competent in my mother tongue. In fact I think he probably could be better than me. 0.o But anyways, all's good and we packed up and left at 2ish 3pm.
By the way, the pictures from the BBQ and UQ's Market Day are taken by Richard, a very talented friend of mine. :) He's doing this photography business thingy in Brisbane and he's really good at what he does. Check out his portfolio on Facebook at Snap Studio Shots!
Last night I went for Hillsong's worship practice and I wished I had been brave enough to join them earlier! Last night session was fruitful, learnt some tips on singing and I can't wait for next week where we'll be watching Brett Manning's DVD. He's someone my friend had recommended me to check out some time back because I was interested in singing and he has helped artistes like Taylor Swift and Hayley from Paramore with their vocals. So, can't wait for next week! And the people here are really awesome and in a way I feel happy and safe here. :)
