Ben Randall (played by Kevin Costner) is a (aging) legendary rescue swimmer who saved countless of lives and a miracle-maker in the waters. But on a horrific rescue mission gone wrong, he lost his crew to a fatal accident. To make matters worse, his wife left him prior to the mission. His commander posted him to A School for the elite rescue divers programme against his wishes, giving him time to deal with his physical, emotional and mental scars.
With him on board, the syallbus of the training programme underwent a makeover to bridge the distance between classroom learning and the reality of their work with his unorthodox training methods. The new recruits went through gruelling phsyical workouts and were put to the test to determine their endurance, speed and strength in water. Enter Jake Fischer (Ashton Kutcher), a cocky (and troubled) swimming champ who is driven to be the best. Under the guidance of Ben, he combined his natural raw talent and the dedication that's required of a rescue swimmer.
As the movie unfolds, viewers will see there are more similarities Ben and Jake share that others don't know. This is an engaging movie with great dialogue, action and Kevin Costner's charisma shone through. Ashton Kutcher also put up a good performance (finally we see a different side of him from the obnoxious him on Punk'd), as a student coming through under the guidance of an inspiring role model. Love the mythical element at the beginning and ending of the movie, and the memorable quotes. The movie echoes heroism and sacrifice, living up to the motto of the US Coast Guard, "So Others May Live". This show is a must-watch and it's opening in theatres on 26th Oct. =D
I'm so gonna get the VCD/DVD when it's out!!
