Tomorrow sister and I are gonna try our hands at macarons, let's hope it's a success! Oh yeah... my electronic certificate of enrolment has arrived, next: applying for visa and all that stuff.

Must run tomorrow... I've been slacking off!!

Last Friday, we went to PeaceHaven Nursing Home to spread some cheer as part of our ViaCommunity Day activity. Quite frankly, I initially signed up to escape a day spent sitting behind the desk. =X

A couple of days leading up to the event, Ariel and I helped to prepare game props and prizes. We were giving out MTV and Nickelodeon premiums such as jackets, umbrellas, coasters, water bottles and stuff.

On the day itself, I printed out driving directions (gothere.sg rocks!) to PeaceHaven, and we had lunch at Mos Burger before heading down. We volunteers were then given a welcome briefing by the volunteer coordinator and Pastor Jimmy before we split up into groups to the different resident living areas.

It was... quite an experience. I didn't know how to interact with them because of the language barrier since I didn't know any dialects. =S Some of them had suffered a stroke before, some were feeble and I had a hard time trying to listen to what they were trying to say. They enjoyed the keropok and cakes that we brought. :) It was a treat for them as they had been keeping to a strict (and bland) diet for health reasons.

I was actually quite surprised that they really enjoyed seeing the mascots that we brought along. Some shook hands with the mascots, some even stood up and danced with them! Who knew there's a child in them despite being at such an old age? :)

I feel that Pastor Jimmy has a really big heart, overflowing with love for each resident and I admire him for that. He knows just the way to crack them up. It takes a really strong person to be around and witness residents go through the different stages of their illnesses, from being able to walk to being wheelchair-bound to being bedridden. I don't think I'll ever be that strong to handle that.

Salsa practice yesterday was fun! I'm really thankful that Marvin took the initiative to organise it and he even prepared refreshments and drinks as well :) I finally put names to faces and faces to names. Can't wait for salsa class this Saturday, we're gonna have dinner after class before hitting the club!

Currently waiting for my hair to dry... Came back home late because I went for an outdoor 7km jog with K. :) I can't tell you how breath-taking the Singapore skyline is, you gotta see it for yourself. I'm quite scared to see how much Singapore will change while I'm away, hahaha!

Tomorrow we'll be going to do voluntary work at PeaceHaven nursing home. I'm quite nervous actually, I don't know what to expect. Dear God, please guide me tomorrow, show me how to love others like how You've loved me...

The Good CLEO Times...

As you know, the May issue of CLEO is out on stands since Monday!
Have you grabbed your copy yet? ;)

And here's my account of my one-month stint with them!

First day at CLEO: LATE LATE LATE!! I was panicking throughout my journey because I've under-estimated the travelling time from home to office. I was almost 30 minutes late, so imagine my relief when I found out that the CLEO team hadn’t come in to check on us. I quickly settled down and made small talk with the other guest editors.

It seems like we all come from different backgrounds, but something tells me that we were the Chosen Ones for a reason. I was sure we'll gel together very well in time to come and I've not been proven wrong. :) FYI: Denise was a teacher previously (and I think she has a degree in psychology?), Nadia (also known as Nadnut) 'blogs for a living' and is also a student, Elise is a law student currently, and hmm I guess April is slightly similar to me since we both have Mass Comm background.

The CLEO team came in later to welcome us and assign us to the different beats. April to fashion, Denise to web, Elise and Nadia to features/ lifestyle(?) and me.... to beauty! =D We were put to work on our first day, Annabelle breezed in and passed us books to review. And we received our first challenge --> Writing a Her Say piece under 500 words. Winner will get to go to Power 98 studio with Deborah, the editor and 2 Bachelor hunks! BTW, Denise won! :)

I can't remember when was this picture taken, but yes... I'm snacking. A girl needs fuel for her brain aiight?

Nadia and I, we braided hair for each other! =D

Elise and Nad had to go source for sex toys to be featured and they came back with huge bags! Here, you can see a variety of vibrators, lubricants and other kinky toys spread across the table (and on April's laptop)! And see the innocent looking lipstick that I'm holding on to? It's a vibrator. I suppose we take quite a bit of pictures...

Hahaha, Nadnut brought her rockstar shades and made everyone take a picture!

Bachelors... Hunks... Bachelors... Hunks... We were also involved in the Bachelors Preview and the Finals party! We sat in for meetings, and knew exactly what we had to do throughout the entire event. For me, I was basically the 'trophy girl', bringing props and prizes onto the stage for both Preview (Mar 7) and Finals (Mar 13).

Before the Preview event kicked off, we were downstairs helping to pack bottles of water into CLEO bags for the Bachelors to give out, and then Bryan and I chilled all the way till it was time. Elise was stationed at the photo-taking booth, April at the polling booth, Nad at the sales/subscription booth and... I cannot remember offhand where Denise was stationed. =X After the performances and games, I went to my muffins and coffee booth to help out, to replenish the trays of muffins and spins for Bachelors to give out while rallying for votes.

We were so busy, that's one of the only pictures we took. I think Elise had a great mix of work and pleasure, she took quite a number of shots with the Bachelors! Hahaha

Bachelors Finals: It was a busy week leading up to the event. My domestic goddess was put to the test when we had to sew velcro strips onto shirts that the Bachelors were going to wear for their striptease act. For someone who relied on glue to hold all my Home Economics projects together, it felt like I've come a long way. During the sewing process, I think I made alot of comments that make the rest go "OMG" but hey, I don't think I was the only one... hahaha! Other than that, we had to style the Bachelors' outfits as well. It was fun, April and I paired up and it was fun choosing shirts and suits, holding ties close to the ensemble to see if it worked. After that we took snapshots of the outfits for all the Bachelors for reference.

It was a busy day for me on event day and a quiet day in office as well with majority of the people at Zirca doing their thing. As for me, I had to attend a beauty launch by Nu Skin at noon, and it was raining cats and dogs! Then, I met up with my sister (my lifesaver once again!!) briefly to pass me my handphone charger because my battery was dying and rushed back to office.

I checked with Andrea what time she would like me to swing by, and I made my way over shortly. Went backstage to help the girls out in steaming clothes (oooh, fun! okay prolly fun since I weren't the one doing it the whole day) and stood in for some Bachelor during rehearsals (no idea why, but my cheeks were burning hot when I was surrounded by the hunks). Soon the hour was drawing near, we all went to the toilet to touch-up on our makeup haha! It was a mad scramble as we passed the hunks their outfits, pin the hems of their pants in so they wouldn't trip, etc. After that I went to look for Shaomei, who ran through the entire programme for the night with me.

My jobscope at the event was the easiest among the rest of the fellow guest editors - To stand around and look pretty (kidding!!). Seriously my role was to bring props on stage and give prizes out to participants, escort presesnters on and off stage. I even managed to catch bits and pieces of the show backstage in between segments and talked to this Bachelor who turned out to be my junior in poly and we had a common friend hahaha!

You would think that all our worries and troubles had come to an end after the winner of the night was announced, but you can't be more wrong. It was total mayhem backstage and a race against time as we rushed to collect clothes from the Bachelors, count and pack the clothes into boxes to be couriered back to office. After doing all that, we then finally relaxed... Checked out the VIP area with the girls and left shortly to look for Jenn who came to the party. She bought me a drink and we hung out for a while before I left the place because the boy had come to send me home and I'm starting my Saturday early!

So here are the only pictures of the night... Too busy! I wanna be in the crowds next time, screaming at the top of lungs and having fun!

Somewhere along in the second week, we decided to have theme days haha ;) We dressed up to themes like Gossip Girl, traffic light, floral, and coloured leggings!

We'll show you some colours! I don't remember why Denise wasn't around... But I think it's because of her dance rehearsals.

So we were presented another challenge in Week 2, to come up Q & A for AskCLEO and the winner gets to host the CLEO Show & Tell! I was keen on winning because it's pretty easy to me, and I really wanna find out more about mineral make up, hopefully I would find out my perfect shade as well. And guess what? Nadnut and I were the winners! :) She hosted the show while I was the model. It was interesting to learn about the application techniques, ways to take care of make-up brushes, and finding out a shade to suit my skintone. And the best part? I walked away with a Bare Escentuals bareMinerals get started kit worth $140 and 2 lip plumpers worth $45 each if I recall correctly! =D

I also interviewed Dalila for the beauty section, and she's such a sweet person!

Last day @ CLEO: Good things never last. We didn't have a theme on the last day, but it seems like we are all wearing alot of black!

We didn't have much to do, so we spent much of the day chilling, taking pictures, and when lunch time came by, we sat down with the CLEO team for a farewell lunch!

Looking through our work! After lunch, we took more pictures!

April and I in the photography studio

Taking silly pictures!

April doing her thing...

We decided to do something nice for the team and we went to get gerberas!

This is why I miss them so much, they are fun and don't mind care about looking silly!

We went around giving out flowers!

Some group shots! Pity Denise left for dance rehearsal/performance already...

Will I do this all over again?
Yes, in a heartbeat :)

Love is...

the boy buying the latest issue of CLEO because you caught a glimpse of it on the stands on the way back to office after your afternoon gym session, and then flipping through the magazine to see your snippets and teasing you about it later on. :)

This has been quite a busy week for me and I've been sleeping late as I've been returning home late. So this is what I've been up to...

Monday - Did my 6km run in the gym after work because I met up with K for lunch and I met him after his class for hmm, supper and to pass him the Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist DVD.

Tuesday - Soup Spoon with colleagues for lunch... =D Then meet up with Velda and Mingzhi for Sakae Sushi to celebrate Mingzhi's birthday!

Wednesday
- Caught the premiere screening of Notorious with Ariel. The movie felt like a crash course into the world of hip-hop and rappers man, thank God it's a premiere screening because there's no way I'm gonna shell out money for this movie!

Thursday
- Did a 5km run with K outdoors along the Esplanade. It's a refreshing change from my usual gym/neighbourhood route. I found myself mesmerized by the skyline as I was jogging.. 5km didn't feel like 5km at all :) Then we had dinner and almond dessert (okay, I had many other stuff as well) at Tong Heng!

Friday
- Wanted to go gym in the morning, but I thought I would just laze around and give myself a break since I ran the day before. So I wound up lying in bed with my book "Life of Pi". I like the book because the writing style is rather poetic and it is a mish-mash of philosophical ramblings, zoology and religion. Met Ariel in the afternoon to catch the Easter production.. And I can't begin to tell you how I felt... In short, I just feel that I'm so, so loved. :)

Saturday - My usual routine in the morning; Pilates class, gym, StretchFit class. Followed by salsa class in the afternoon. I'm really thankful that I have enthusiastic classmates who take the first step to gather our numbers/ email addresses and then make plans to hit the salsa club next week! I think most of us are going for the intermediate class as well... This is gonna be so fun! :) Can't wait for next week to roll by man hahah! Then met sister and mum for dinner before we went to catch Cats. It's not like Phantom of the Opera where there's much more dialogue, but I enjoyed it nonetheless! I love Mistoffelees, I think all the cast members can really dance!

So.. I'm gonna take it easy tomorrow, just chill at home, pack my room, watch the DVDs that I've borrowed (Breakfast At Tiffany's, Love me Love me not, Paris, Je T'aime) and go for Yogasanna class... Sounds good to me :)

My sister got me the Nike+ sports kit some time in Jan, but I never got down to using it because firstly I don't own a pair of Nike+ shoes and secondly, I didn't have the adaptor to secure my sensor to my shoelaces.

Then recently my sister's boyfriend passed me his adaptor and it couldn't come to me at a better time since I'm currently training up for my 10km Passion Run! :) I took it out for a run, calibrated the sensor and stuff. I tried running on the treadmill and it seems that the sensor isn't very accurate when it's attached to my shoelaces (as compared to embedding it in a pair of Nike+ shoes) because I have to cover a longer distance in order for my sensor to register that I've completed my workout. For example, I have to run 6.6km in order for my sensor to reflect 6km covered. But I'm not complaining... :)

So I'm very motivated to run now because.....

I have a Mini Me! *beams*

It's so cute! I can change her outfit, hairstyle, accessories and stuff =D When I tracked my first run, my Mini redeemed a T-shirt! It seems like the more I run, the more things my Mini can pick out to wear! Everytime after my workout, I sync my iPod to reflect my MiniMe's latest activity to see what she has to say. She's also my screensaver and when I slack off, she provides me with the much-needed kick in the butt by saying something like "My paddleball is getting more exercise than me", etc. Hahaha!

Alrighty, nothing much to write now so I'll scoot off! Catching Notorious later with Ariel =D

One thing that I've found out about myself today is how much I hate staying out late on Sundays.

I hate coming home late to realise that my mum had prepared food enough to feed a battalion for me (which I usually would be thankful for if I weren't on a strict diet), only to have to keep it in our already filled refrigerator. I hate how I have to blow-dry my hair (like my hair isn't damaged enough already) so I can turn in early.

Not only that, I'm feeling quite tuckered out right now and the thought of having to run tomorrow really puts me off. But I know if I put off my plans to run, this fury inside of me will just snowball and eat me up inside. This is no good.

I don't think it's really that much about staying out late on Sundays that bothers me, I think it's about how my usual routine had been messed up. For example, I would rather go to church on Saturdays instead of Sunday mornings so I can have time to rest/recuperate/recharge before going back to work on Monday. How I would rather to spend my Sunday evenings chilling at home, going about my beauty routine more than doing anything else. I think it's just me needing my me-time alot more than other people do.

AHHHHH, actually please just ignore my ramblings because I have nothing to do other than pounding on my keyboard while waiting for my hair to dry. Ramblings at 2am in the morning is prolly due to my lack of rest and maybe when morning comes, all these wouldn't bother me anymore.

Confessions of A Shopaholic

Nothing's really going on this week, but I managed to catch Confessions of A Shopaholic on Wednesday! :)

The movie is a film adaptation of 2 books (Confessions of a Shopaholic and Shopaholic Takes Manhattan) from Sophie Kinsella's Shopaholic series of novels. I find myself enjoying every bit of the movie thoroughly unlike other film adaptations (i.e Marley & Me, Da Vinci Code, etc). Nevermind if the story's not set in the UK or how Luke wasn't supposed to be the editor at Financial Savings, all that didn't mattered to me. Isla Fisher really brought the character Rebecca Bloomwood to life, and she has a wardrobe to die for (and credit bills to match). It was really funny to watch her improvising excuses for her failure to repay her debts, gasping in horror before downing alcohol whenever her pal Suze opens up her credit card bills, pretending to understand Finnish and financial jargon. It was really hilarious watching her do the tango with Luke as well hahaha!

Anyways, don't wanna say anymore and spoil the fun for people who haven't caught it yet. This is one movie that I'll buy the DVD and watch it over and over again :)
