T'was the eve before Christmas eve...

I had a nice Christmas dinner with my family + Bern earlier on at Jurong Point's Fish & Co. :) While most of us ordered from the festive menu, my dad chose to have Peri Peri Prawns instead hahaha. I think he was overwhelmed by the number of prawns when it was served. Oh oh oh, I passed Bern the present I got for him yesterday (I just couldn't wait till Christmas!!) and I'm really happy he likes the LCA+! A little over my budget, but still reasonable because I got a 20% off as I signed up to be a Kino member haha! Dessert was nice, I like the warm apple crumble with yummy caramel sauce :) Sorry, no pictures because I didn't bring my camera out heh.

Anyway, I went for Magnum's AGM yesterday which started really really early this year :) I'm happy for Karen that she's discharged of her secretary duties and she's free to blog more often and do her stuff/ concentrate on her studies now! Hope you like Patrick star =D Anyway, all the best to the new committee, bring it on! :)

Headed down town with Siti to get my fringe trimmed at Maison before doing some Christmas shopping for Bern and my sister. This was the first time we hung out together! Usually it's the 4 of us (somehow, mean girls' attendance is always 80% and seldom a full 100%) hanging out together, so this was a nice change. Thanks babe for walking all over Bugis and Orchard with me! =D I had fun hehehe So yup, I got myself an inspirational book titled "Life's Golden Ticket" from Kinokuniya and I've already finished reading it. I'm a sucker for such books :)

Would blog more when I have the time, but it's time to catch some sleep now. been feeling really lethargic these days... must be the staying up late at nigh to finish reading the books...

Looking forward to our Christmas potluck in the office tomorrow! :) Have yourself a merry lil christmas everyone!

I've been receiving positive messages on a daily basis and I receive the following story and I thought that I would share it since it's the Christmas season :)

White Envelopes

It's just a small, white envelope stuck among the branches of our Christmas tree. No name, no identification, no inscription. It has peeked through the branches of our tree for the past 10 years or so.

It all began because my husband Mike hated Christmas. Oh, not the true meaning of Christmas, but the commercial aspects of it, overspending, the frantic running around at the last minute to get a tie for Uncle Harry and the dusting powder for Grandma, the gifts given in desperation because you couldn't think of anything else.

Knowing he felt this way, I decided one year to bypass the usual shirts, sweaters, ties and so forth. I reached for something special just for Mike. The inspiration came in an unusual way. Our son, Kevin, who was 12 that year was wrestling at the junior level at the school he attended, and shortly before Christmas, there was a non-league match against a team sponsored by an inner-city church.

These youngsters, dressed in sneakers so ragged that shoestrings seemed to be the only thing holding them together, presented a sharp contrast to our boys in the spiffy blue and gold uniforms and sparkling new wrestling shoes. As the match began I was alarmed to see that the other team was wrestling without headgear, a kind of light helmet designed to protect a wrestler's ears. It was a luxury the ragtag team obviously could not afford. Well, we ended up walloping them. We took every weight class. And as each of their boys got up from the mat, he swaggered around in his tatters with false bravado, a kind of street pride that couldn't acknowledge defeat. Mike, seated beside me, shook his head sadly, "I wish one of them could have won," he said. "They have a lot of potential, but losing like this could take the heart right out of them." Mike loved kids, all kids, and he knew them, having coached little league football, baseball and lacrosse.

That's when the idea of his present came. That afternoon, I went to a local sporting goods store and bought an assortment of wrestling headgear and shoes and sent them anonymously to the inner-city church. On Christmas Eve, I placed the envelope on the tree, the note inside telling Mike what I had done and that this was his gift from me. His smile was the brightest thing about Christmas that year and in succeeding years. For each Christmas, I followed the tradition, one year sending a group of mentally handicapped youngsters to a hockey game, another year a check to a pair of elderly brothers whose home had burned to the ground the week before Christmas, and on and on. The envelope became the highlight of our Christmas. It was always the last thing opened on Christmas morning and our children, ignoring their new toys, would stand with wide-eyed anticipation as their dad lifted the envelope from the tree to reveal its contents. As the children grew, the toys gave way to more practical presents, but the envelope never lost its allure. The story doesn't end there.

You see we lost Mike last year due to dreaded cancer. When Christmas rolled around, I was still so wrapped in grief that I barely got the tree up. But Christmas Eve found me placing an envelope on the tree, and in the morning, it was joined by three more.

Each of our children, unbeknownst to the others, had placed an envelope on the tree for their dad. The tradition has grown and someday will expand even further with our grandchildren standing around the tree with wide-eyed anticipation watching as their fathers take down the envelope. Mike's spirit, like the Christmas spirit, will always be with us.

Pay is in! Pay is in!! :) The reason why I'm so excited is because I'm getting one month bonus! Hahaha, I can do alot with that additional sum of money. I'm gonna save about 1/4 of my bonus, get some presents for my sisters, take my family for a nice Christmas dinner and get THE perfect christmas present for Bern. I'm not sure what I'll get for myself because I have everything I need already :) I'm easily contented hahaha

Tis the season to give and receive :) I was looking through Worldvision's website where we can actually provide a life-changing gift to a child that's a basic essential that will help improve their everyday life, items like a pair of school-shoes, a warm blanket to keep them warm through the night, a hygiene pack to ensure a supply of clean water, et al. I've decided that I wanna get a gift for them, something within my budget :)

Maybe the next time before we throw money into another pair of heels (that's similar to 192876534 pairs you already own) or a new eyeshadow colour impulsively, we can actually think of using that money to make a difference to somebody else's life... :)

Recently I discovered that my FishEye2's flash was faulty and I was extremely upset =( So I took it to the Lomo Embassy and brought along the warranty card during my lunch break. The lady tested the flash and it only work when it's in B mode and it doesn't work in the Normal mode, therefore.... *drumroll* I got to exchange for a spanking new FishEye2!! =D I'm so thankful that it spoilt during its warranty period and not after it, if not I'll be really pissed. Hahaha

Been really busy (as usual) and we had our MTV Christmas party at Cafe Del Mar last Wednesday. It was great fun and I got to play chapteh with Utt! =D Will blog more when I'm in the mood... ;)

My chinese is improving man!) and a Colourflash that I can attach to my Fisheye! :) I'm a very blessed, loved and happy girl! :) I love my boyfriend!

This whole week without my mum around the house brought out the domestic goddess in me. I can get laundry done without soap suds frothing from the washing machine, boil water without burning down the house down and I even remembered to feed the starving fishes on a daily basis! *feeling accomplished* Tomorrow, Bern and I will be going to cook dinner together. :)

*sigh* there's a cockroach running amok in the house and I'm all alone at home. I hate this feeling, where's my silly sister? :( It's better having 2 people afraid than being afraid alone... I can't believe I actually screamed and my goosebumps stood up! It's already 12:31 and she's not home yet >=( It sucks not to have a working can of Baygon at home.
