Looking!

Anyone interested in working for MTV, in my department? It's a temporary job as of now... might become a perm job. Job scope --> helping out with miscellaneous stuff, like chasing tapes, and helping us out with our increased workload. Will learn the system that we're using now, chances of the job becoming a perm job is high because a fellow colleague is going to leave at the end of the year. =~(

2 people needed. contact me if interested.

Wah sey!! Quite a few contacted me already... May the best person get the job, be ready to do whatever we throw you! just kidding lah.

I'm feeling the blues on a Tuesday... suddenly I don't feel like working anymore =(

Pictureful updates of Ash's surprise Bday, Bern&Kells 1st year anniversary and Adriel's potluck gathering at his place pending. Will get to them when I'm free during the weekend.

Project Ashawne

Date: 25/10/2006
Mission: To hold a birthday celebration for fellow colleague Ash.

Problems encountered: No confirmed knowledge whether if she's taking off on Thursday and Friday. Verbal evidence of her saying that she will be working on Thursday to me and Ariel in the toilet during our morning routine of washing our cups as a trio.

Solution: Decided to play safe and celebrate her birthday on the day that we got back from our looong weekend holiday.

Plan Part I: All will buy lunch back to eat at Break'Out Lounge separately. Ariel and I will meet to take a look at the cakes at BreadTalk whereas tancy will distract her. tancy sent out an email to get everyone to contribute to the cake and the present discreetly. At about 4ish, we'll strike.

Plan Part II: Ariel to pick up cake, arrange candles and all in the meeting room. Will contact tancy to ambush Ash. My job --> photographer of the day. That's only because I was the only one carrying a digital camera around heheheh.

Slight complications: No one has a lighter among us anymore. Damnnit. But that was quickly solved. Ash, our star, was missing!! But she returned shortly after her disappearance.

Ashaley, this is what you didn't see. Ariel was trying to have a piece of your cake before your birthday cake knife can sink in.

Unsuspecting Ashaley, really thinking that I was trying to test out my camera.

SURPRISE!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!

Cake presentation ceremony.

The fun thing about cream cake is.... you can play with the cream!! =D

Finally, a portrait of us... of whatever's left here right now. Kinda small.. but still good.

I declare... this was really a great team effort to see to everything executed successfully, even though it was a very last minute, on the spot kinda thing. x)

1st Year Anniversary

Went over to Vivo City to check it out on our anniversary. x) It's a might big place and it was swarmed with people. Don't think I'll go back there anytime soon. We went to Toys 'R' Us, had fun hehehe and walked around somemore before we headed to Sakae Sushi for dinner! *Yumyum* We ordered quite a bit of food and by the time we finished, we were walking out feeling very bloated. =D

Baby bought me lots of presents! =D Two tops from Forever 21, 1 sweater from Topshop and hip scarf for belly dancing! x)

We then played a game: We hafta buy each other something from VivoMart with $10 and under 10 minutes. hahaha... =D He tried to distract me by bringing me around the place... and then losing me so that he could go ahead and buy what he wanted to get for me.. =P so in the end, I was late by 4 minutes. BLEAHHHH. hahaha

Chocolates from me, photoframe from my baby =) The gerberra... was casually plucked from the many bouquets outside the newly opened shop. hehehehe

So Others May Live

You take a good look at the icy-cold raging waves below and jumped in. You flash your team mates a sign and proceed to begin your work. People are only concerned about their own survival. Everyone around you is screaming, "Save me! Save me!", but you make your own judgment of the situation and help the ones who need it more. And sometimes, you live with the guilt of the lives that were taken by the sea. That's the job of a rescue swimmer for you.

Ben Randall (played by Kevin Costner) is a (aging) legendary rescue swimmer who saved countless of lives and a miracle-maker in the waters. But on a horrific rescue mission gone wrong, he lost his crew to a fatal accident. To make matters worse, his wife left him prior to the mission. His commander posted him to A School for the elite rescue divers programme against his wishes, giving him time to deal with his physical, emotional and mental scars.

With him on board, the syallbus of the training programme underwent a makeover to bridge the distance between classroom learning and the reality of their work with his unorthodox training methods. The new recruits went through gruelling phsyical workouts and were put to the test to determine their endurance, speed and strength in water. Enter Jake Fischer (Ashton Kutcher), a cocky (and troubled) swimming champ who is driven to be the best. Under the guidance of Ben, he combined his natural raw talent and the dedication that's required of a rescue swimmer.

As the movie unfolds, viewers will see there are more similarities Ben and Jake share that others don't know. This is an engaging movie with great dialogue, action and Kevin Costner's charisma shone through. Ashton Kutcher also put up a good performance (finally we see a different side of him from the obnoxious him on Punk'd), as a student coming through under the guidance of an inspiring role model. Love the mythical element at the beginning and ending of the movie, and the memorable quotes. The movie echoes heroism and sacrifice, living up to the motto of the US Coast Guard, "So Others May Live". This show is a must-watch and it's opening in theatres on 26th Oct. =D

I'm so gonna get the VCD/DVD when it's out!!

Because no girl should ever feel bad about herself

and if the link doesn't work, click here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RADYaTvTGts

This has been a crazy week, trying to deal with two addresses from the president of MTV Networks Asia and the CEO of MTV International, emotions and all. I think it's best for me to unwind on this lovely Saturday morning, spend some me-time, without Pilates class, because if I'm not reading too deeply into the acting president's words, "feel free to go off earlier today, take some time to spend with your family and friends" actually translate to working harder and longer hours for the challenging months ahead.

MTV Singapore downsizes, 84 axed
Zul Othmanzul@mediacorp.com.sg

AFTER days of speculation, MTV Networks Asia has confirmed the downsizing of its operations in Singapore, axing nearly half of its 192 staff here.

Some 84 full-time employees across all levels in its Singapore office were retrenched yesterday, as the company shifts more resources to individual local operations throughout the region.

MTV branches in India, Indonesia, China and Japan were not affected. Said Mr William Roedy, president of MTV Networks International: "We will lose a number of valued employees in the Singapore operation who have shown tremendous passion for our brand and audiences."

He denied suggestions that the retrenchment was due to falling advertising revenue or a response to the arrival of Hong Kong-based music station Channel V. Meanwhile, Mr Nigel Robbins will step down as president of MTV Networks Asia. Mr Steven Tan, the company's executive vice president and chief operating officer, will lead the business until a replacement for Mr Robbins is appointed.

This is not the first time the network has restructured: Last December, a similar exercise saw the retrenchment of 18 employees. Sources Today spoke said that while cutbacks had been expected, the axing of nearly half of Singapore's workforce came as a shock.

"It's been quite a sad day as everyone is affected," said one employee who asked not to be named.

"With all the rumours in the past few weeks, I suppose we all saw this coming. Still, to can so many is something we didn't expect. I guess we'll have to wait and see what other plans the company has for us."

Today understands that each retrenched employee will receive a severance package of one month's pay for each year of service.

This morning as I made my way into the office, it was a lot quieter than usual. It felt colder. Familiar desks that I have to pass by before I get to my desk have been stripped bare of decorations that used to make the working space a little bit more homely and lived-in. What used to be a happy environment, isn't that cheery anymore.

The thought of having a whole new (well, almost) set of colleagues and people to work with, to hang out during lunch-time when year 2007 rolls by... is.. unthinkable. I'm getting far too attached to this company, this group of colleagues than I know. It's hard to work here when the morale of fellow colleagues is still at rock-bottom.

I guess that's just life huh?

The Nokia Starlight Cinema Experience

Bern & I went for the Nokia Starlight Cinema at Padang yesterday. Was supposed to meet at 4:30PM, but we ended up meeting at 5ish because *ahem* he was supposed to wake me up from my nap at 3:40PM, but my baby slept wayyy past the time to wake me up! hahaha.. Took MRT down to City Hall and went to do some shopping for food at Marketplace and bought our dinner at Chippy's! *lick lips*

Made our way down to the Padang, gave my email to the dude at the entrance (yay to complimentary tickets!) and went inside the area to settle down on the blue tarp. I tell you the VIP area is damn cool! Imagine big comfy cushy bean bags and a table to place all your snacks, nicely lit by a table lamp.. sweeet man.

After settling down happily on our blue mat and sleeping bag!

Our chops x)

There's the big screen right in front... Pretty good view from where we are seated.

My baby blowing up the ball.. I think it's a really good idea to supply such ball cushions (to act as a support for the back or a pillow to prop your head up) so we can watch the movie comfortably (especially so when we are watching X-Men 2 and X-Men 3 in the same night!). *thumbs up*

Of course, a picture of us together! This really nice expatriate couple/ tourists sitting beside us help us take the picture :)

It's getting darker, we're all waiting for the movie to commence. In the meantime, the band Dubious Brothers rocked on.. They are pretty good I must say! I don't know the title for the opening song they did, but the lead singer sounded EXACTLY like the original singer!! *gasp* Both me and Bern was shocked at the radio quality-like voice... But yah lah, it's really the guy singer singing. *thumbs up* And yah.. as you can tell, pretty hazy! When I got home, PSI level was 140!!!

Another picture before the movie finally started.

I enjoyed the X-Men 2 (love the witty dialogue!) and we both finally managed to catch how X-Men 3 ended. hahaha, the other time we caught it in BKK at Siam Discovery Centre (i think), we were so tuckered out that we fell asleep at various parts of the movie. And the bunch of Malay dudes and gals were nice, when we wanted to visit the toilet during the 20 minute interval between the two movies, they readily agreed to take care of our belongings.. :) And yah, while many were queueing up to use the makeshift toilets, we popped over to Esplanade... =D really felt good to feel the air-con and to be able to use nice clean toilets. x)

I love it when we spend happy and carefree time together :) *contented smile*

I'm enjoying my life now

My Singaporean trait = Love to eat!
Bern & I went to the legendary Blk 85 at Bedok North to have a taste of the bachor mee! I'm always very happy when it comes to food :D

Us on the bus on the way there

The weather was really chilly and it was still drizzling, so a hot bowl of piping hot soupy bachor mee really warmed my insides!

When the uncle carried our bowls of bachor mee to our table, he went "xiao mei, hen jiu mei you lai chi le hor?" (translation: little girl, very long never come here and eat already hor?)

And I was like, ehh, this is my first time eating here. hahaa, this furthers emphasize that i have a common face, damnit.

We also had otah and satay to go along with our mee..

Ben & Jerry's at Cathay! :D

Ben & Jerry's such a happy ice-cream place.. Love the colours and the atmosphere.

Love the wall mirror decorations as well

Our ice-cream x)
The Cathay outlet's my favourite outlet, it's so near to my workplace too! No need to travel to Suntec to settle my cravings for B&J's. x)

Went for BellyBlitz class at Amore on Sunday, it's a combination of bellydancing and areobics.. very fun! I love it. x) Maybe I'll go for BellyBlitz classes if time + money permits....

Then on Tuesday, Serena passed me a pair of free tickets to catch You, Me & Dupree at GV Marina! =D I cancelled my Pilates class and informed Bern that we are going for the movie screening! hehe.. I love such perks!

Synopsis: Carl and Molly Peterson are just starting their new life together--complete with a cute house, boring neighbors, stable jobs and the routines of newlywed existence. There's just one unfortunate hitch in their perfectly constructed new world. And his name's Dupree. Randy Dupree, Carl's oldest friend and perpetual bachelor, has found himself with nowhere to go after being fired. Carl yanks his jobless/homeless pal out of the bar he's living in and invites him to temporarily crash on the couch--that's just what friends do. At first, Carl is quite pleased to have his good buddy as a permanent couch guest, while Molly bears the brunt of Dupree's immature antics. But, as Carl becomes buried in his grown-up job, he finds it harder and harder to juggle Dupree and his responsibilities as a husband. To make matters worse, Dupree uses his ample spare time to become a great companion for Molly. Even her dad and the neighbors are falling for his carefree wisdom and charm--frustrating Carl to no end. Soon, everyone (but Carl) begins to root for Dupree to stick around. But as Dupree starts to become a fixture in the Peterson's home, three becomes not just a crowd--but a full blown, hilarious catastrophe.

It was pretty funny... Dupree can be sucha sweet friend :) You guys can never imagine what kinda job he took up at the end of the show.. hehehe! Discover your inner "-ness" today!
